How to make your home more energy efficient.

The Irish government recently enacted legislation that means that homes and other buildings will no longer need planning permission for solar panels, except where they are close to airports and some emergency facilities. This, along with other energy-saving incentives and grants paves the way for you, the homeowner to transform your home for the better.

At House and Extension Plans, we encourage our clients to look into all options when it comes to increasing the energy efficiency of their homes. Installing solar panels, insulating walls, and attics, replacing old windows, and installing windows with a low “u” value are just some of the ways you can do this. During the initial design phase, our team might suggest altering some components of your initial plans to accommodate more energy-efficient and green measures.

It is not uncommon for a home to lose 20% of its heat through badly insulated walls. This figure can rise upwards of 30% if your attic is not adequately insulated. Remember, heat rises so heat-proofing the upper levels of your home, especially your attic is crucial in combatting escaping heat.

With soaring energy costs, and winter settling in, the time is now to get to work.
